With Florida State leading the all-time series 14-10-1, the Seminoles take on Georgia Tech for the first time since 2015 in their 2020 season opener.

Starting in 2010, the Florida State Seminoles won 10-plus games six out of seven seasons, went 5-2 in bowl games, made an appearance in the first-ever College Football playoff (2014), and won a national title in 2013, but since, have gone 18-20, finishing the last two seasons below .500. But 2020 starts off a new era a Seminole Football as new head coach, Mike Norvell takes over and looks to right the ship and get Florida State back atop the ACC.

Norvell brings over a whole new staff and a whole new offense to Florida State, which is the fourth offense in as many years for the Seminoles. Norvell’s’ offense is fast-paced and high-scoring and is just the type of offense and revamped look the Seminoles could use right now. But with it being a new offense, there will be some bumps in the road this season, so an immediate fix to Seminoles’ problems should not be the expectations for the 2020 season, but yet of that of showing improvement and that the program is trending upwards by seasons’ end.

For the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, they enter 2020 coming off a 3-9 season that saw them make the transition out of their famous triple-option offense. But when something is not working, sometimes it’s best to try something new, and despite having just three wins in 2019, the future does look bright for the Yellow Jackets. Geoff Collins comes to a program that has a nationally known name, but not the reputation most others have like Georgia and Clemson, meaning he will have some time to rebuild this program to make them an ACC title contender.

The strong point of a Collins led team is the defense, and this year Tech returns nearly every starter from the 2019 Yellow Jacket defense. Georgia Tech will look for their defense to keep them in games while their offense still works on establishing its game in the second year of a new offense. If the defense can keep them in games late in the fourth quarter, they might come away with some quality wins and could have a lot to build on heading into the 2021 season.

Location: Tallahassee, Florida
Stadium: Doak Campbell Stadium
TV Info: ABC
Odds: Florida State -12.5, O/U 52.5

Prediction: This game is going to have turnovers, mistakes, and maybe a few football follies. Both programs are rebuilding and looking to re-establish themselves in the ACC and potentially become legit contenders in competing with Clemson for ACC titles.

Flordia State’s offense against Georgia Tech’s defense will be fun to watch, but the Seminoles’ new face-paced offense should give them the edge. On the flip side, Florida State’s defense, led by Marvin Wilson, should dominate the Yellow Jacket offense all game long. Georgia Tech stays within distance but the Seminoles send the Yellow Jackets home with a loss.

Score: Florida State 34, Georgia Tech 20.
