Both Francisco Lindor and Sergio Romo have received their punishments after a spat led to the benches clearing.

There were some extra fireworks in the showdown between the Cleveland Indians and Minnesota Twins on Friday night. Following a Lindor fly-out, the slugger and Minnesota hurler Sergio Romo exchanged some words and things quickly became quite heated.

Moments later, the two looked like they were ready to drop some haymakers on one another if teammates didn’t step in to separate them. The benches for both the Indians and Twins ended up clearing, with tensions really reaching a high level.

As a result, both Romo and Lindor have received their punishments from Major League Baseball, with the Twins’ hurler getting the worst of the two.

Both the Twins and Indians are chasing the White Sox in the AL Central standings

Romo found out on Saturday that he’s received a one-game suspension and a fine, while Lindor was hit with just a fine and won’t be missing any games.

It’s unclear what exactly the beef is between the two, but there’s definitely some bad blood there. There’s of course plenty of animosity between these two teams right now, as they’re both chasing the Chicago White Sox in the AL Central standings. As of this writing, Chicago holds a one-game lead on the Twins and a 2.5-game lead on the Indians.

In Friday’s game, Minnesota ended up coming out on top 3-1, with Cleveland’s offense continuing to struggle. Perhaps that’s why Lindor was so angry, as he’s hitting .274 with seven homers and 19 RBI.

The two teams will once again meet on Saturday night. We’ll see if there’s any more beef brewing between the AL Central clubs.
