Liverpool face Leeds United at Anfield on Saturday, Sept. 12. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
The Premier League season starts on Saturday with defending champions Liverpool welcoming Leeds United back to the Premier League. The Reds ran away from the competition last season, finishing 18 points ahead of second-place Manchester City. Leeds were promoted to the Premier League for the first time since 2004.
It took Liverpool 30 years to win a championship, now the club is looking to win back to back league titles. Manager Jurgen Klopp successfully guided Borussia Dortmund to back to back Bundesliga titles in 2011 and 2012, he will try to do the same at Liverpool. Klopp’s aggressive pressing gameplan helped the Reds scored the second-most goals last season and concede the fewest. Liverpool has not made any significant additions this summer and will rely on the same roster that helped them lift the title last year.
Leeds were Premier League fixture from the first season in 1992 until they were relegated in 2004. When Leeds were relegated, fans expected the club to be quickly promoted back into the Premier League. Instead, it took Leeds 16 years to get promoted. Now, Leeds will have to fight to remain in the Premier League. Manager Marcelo Bielsa is one of the highest regarded managers in the sport but keeping Leeds up could be the biggest test of his career. The Peacocks have spent aggressively since being promoted signing center-back Robin Koch and striker Rodrigo. Both players will play a key role in the Leeds’ starting XI this season.
