The match between Azarenka (‘Vika’) and Osaka was a lopsided affair with the two-time Australian Open winner racing out of the gate to a dominant first set win, 1-6. Although Osaka rallied back in the second, break games were traded and the match was played at a tremendously high level.

The win at this year’s Open was a much-improved atmosphere from the controversial tussle with Serena Williams in 2018, with the 23-time slam champion getting into a scrimmage with the umpire and a tearful Osaka accepting her first slam trophy under duress.
Having won her first two Major finals 2018 US Open and 2019 Australian Open, Osaka's trying to become the first woman since Capriati in 2001/2002 to win her first three Major finals. @espn 🎾

The Japanese native is undefeated in slam finals.
Although initial criticism of the tournament mentioned a depleted field on the women’s side (with Simona Halep, Bianca Andreescu, and Ashleigh Barty all out), with the confidence that Osaka conjured, she probably would have won anyway. She is the only WTA player to have won three slam since her maiden title, the 2018 U.S. Open. She has won at least one slam a year since 2018, two U.S. Opens and last year’s Australian Open.

Naomi Osaka is only 22 and has three grand slams. There is plenty of time to collect so much more.

The win for Osaka comes right before Japan is set to host the Summer Olympics next year. It’s a very good bet that the celebrated tennis player will be featured prominently for the Tokyo Games. She will also be the favorite for the Gold medal.
The US Open men’s final, a dream nextgen matchup between Dominic Thiem and Alexander Zverev will take place on Sunday, 4:00 p.m., viewable on ESPN.
