Cardinals scout has died of COVID-19
A Cardinals scout has passed away after a battle with COVID-19.
The St. Louis Cardinals were one of the MLB teams that had to deal with a COVID-19 outbreak this season. The team was lucky to get back on the field without any serious cases affecting players or coaches.
MLB organizations go beyond just those at the ballpark on a daily basis. There are scouts all over the country and the Cardinals announced the tragic news that one of the team’s amateur scouts has died after a battle with COVID-19.
Tragic news for the Cardinals
The GoFundMe mentioned in the above tweet explains how Charles Peterson had been hospitalized with the virus since mid-August. He was in a fight for his life and sadly he passed away over the weekend. The GoFundMe is currently at nearly $34,000 of what started as a $5,000 goal.
Any death is tragic news and one due to COVID-19 once again drives home the severity of this ongoing pandemic. Peterson was in the hospital on a ventilator and was never able to recover.
The Cardinals noted how Peterson signed the team’s 2020 first-round pick Jordan Walker. Peterson scouted in the south and signed Walker out of Decatur, Georgia.
The main story here is a life lost too soon. Peterson was more than just a scout for the Cardinals and was just 46 years old. The other story is that it is unsafe and also just wrong to downplay COVID-19. Even one person, which is not the case, being hooked up to a ventilator for a month shows how damaging the virus can be to certain individuals.
Our condolences go out to Peterson’s friends and family in this tough time.
