The Cubs and White Sox made some Chicago baseball history in 2020.

The MLB decided on a 60-game regular season in 2020 and that seemed to limit the chances of seeing no-hitters or perfect games. But that has not been the case as there have been two on the year.

Chicago White Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito had the first and Alec Mills of the Chicago Cubs had the second on Sunday. That is two no-hitters in fewer than 50 total games this season and both from the same city. Both clubs have been around a long time, however, this is the first time Chicago baseball fans have witnessed the rare feat.

Cubs and White Sox make impressive history

The Cubs got their current name in 1903 and began play as the Chicago White Stockings in 1870. The White Sox also took on the White Stockings name starting in 1901 and got their current name in 1904. That is a lot of time for both teams to have a no-hitter in the same season. The Cubs have 16 no-hitters in franchise history and the White Sox have 19.

Both teams having no-hitters in the same season is impressive enough. This becomes even more notable considering this history is made in a shortened season. We would be in May in a normal year with this amount of games played.

2020 is a year filled with insanity and this MLB history is nothing out of the ordinary. Mills also becomes a tricky part of the future trivia question. Giolito is a rising ace with the White Sox, but Mills has a new career-high in starts this season with nine.

The entire scene Sunday was special and it is hard to root against a player like Mills who reached the ultimate peak as a pitcher. Oh, both teams are also in first place in their respective divisions. We may be set for an all-Chicago World Series if the no-hitters are a sign.
