Tom Brady and Matt Schaub have something in common, and not in a good way

Tom Brady’s bad debut for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers got even worse, if that was even possible.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers entered Sunday with a huge smile across their faces. Tom Brady, the six-time Super Bowl champion quarterback, was making his debut in the red and pewter on Sunday against the rival New Orleans Saints. This was the Buccaneers’ chance to prove that they’re ready to take the NFC South crown. But then, the game started.

Brady and the Bucs looked lost with the lack of preseason games caused by the coronavirus pandemic. After going down 17-7, Brady was trying to cut Tampa Bay’s deficit in the third quarter. But then, Brady threw an interception to New Orleans cornerback Janoris Jenkins, who took it to the house for the touchdown.

After that play, Brady became the first quarterback to throw a pick-six in three consecutive games since one Matt Schaub accomplished the feat between the 2014 and 2015 seasons when he was a part of the then-Oakland Raiders and Baltimore Ravens. Of course, that’s not good.

Tampa Bay snapped back to reality

Prior to this game, Brady threw a game-ending pick-six in the AFC Wild Card Round against the Tennessee Titans and during their 2019 regular-season finale loss to the Miami Dolphins.

Tampa Bay learned the hard way that they’re still steps away from competing with the Saints for the divisional title. Brady and wide receiver Mike Evans were visibly not on the same page, which led to the quarterback’s first interception of the game in the first half. Then, the Buccaneers were penalized a staggering nine times in the game, which was nothing new if you watched them last season, where they led the league in penalties.

Through four quarters, Brady completed 23-of-36 pass attempts for 239 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. The main beneficiary of Brady’s passes was Chris Godwin, who caught 6-of-7 targets for 66 yards. Tight end O.J. Howard outproduced Rob Gronkowski, as he four passes for 36 yards and a touchdown. Evans secured one catch, a two-yard touchdown, on four targets.

Next. Mike Evans, Marshon Lattimore get into shoving match. dark

Brady will look to put this game behind him next week, as they face the rebuilding Carolina Panthers on the road. Hopefully for Brady’s sake that the pick-six streak ends there, instead of being extended to four games.
