Tom Brady’s first touchdown with Buccaneers was glorious (Video)

Tom Brady’s first touchdown with the Buccaneers was something we’re not used to seeing from him.
For the first time in almost two decades, Tom Brady scored a touchdown for a team other than the New England Patriots.
Brady didn’t throw a touchdown pass or lob a toss to get the Bucs on the board for the first time on his watch — he took it in himself. On a day when Twitter had fun pointing out that Cam Newton rushed for more yards in one game than Brady did in 13 of his 18 seasons with the team, Brady’s first touchdown with Tampa Bay was of the rushing variety.
Needless to say, it was glorious.

That was Brady’s 23rd rushing touchdown of his entire career, which is to say he doesn’t normally do what we saw him do. That’s been something of a theme for him since he’s come to Tampa and it’s one that fans would love to see continue.
Brady coming to Tampa Bay fundamentally changes everything for a franchise that has been trapped in obscurity for almost two decades. Since winning the Super Bowl back in 2003, the Bucs slipped away from national attention and only resurfaced as the butt of Jameis Winston jokes.
With Brady, Tampa is getting the last laugh.
At least, that’s the plan. There are a number of ways this doesn’t work out the way Bucs fans are hoping it does but there are more ways than not that it does. Tampa Bay’s defense was one of the best in the league last year if you strip away all of the damage that Winston did which couldn’t entirely be undone. Without the brutal Pick Sixes or the fact that the Bucs defense had to defend one of the shortest fields in the league last season, the unit was impressive.
Now they have a mistake-averse quarterback leading the charge who will put them in a fantastic spot to succeed. Couple that with the insane offensive weapons that Tampa has and this could be a magical year.
The fact that Brady has all of these tools around him, but elected to put his body on the line and score his first touchdown himself, is a testament to how all-in he is and the type of culture he’s brought to a franchise largely devoid of such a thing for far too long.
