Kyle Lewis made an amazing play Monday night.
The Seattle Mariners and Oakland Athletics are playing two games Monday in some eerie conditions. The air is hazy due to wildfires and it is arguably unsafe to be playing in that environment. Alas, the games are being played and the Mariners took the first.
The Mariners still have hope for a postseason berth and rookie Kyle Lewis has been a key reason for the team’s success. The young man appeared in only 18 games last season and is now a frontrunner for Rookie of the Year honors.
The former first-round pick made a spectacular play Monday night that showed his defense is another reason why he is a top rookie in MLB.

Kyle Lewis makes a huge robbery
Lewis’ catch and celebration were a thing of beauty. He also made that catch while the bases were loaded. Not making that play may have ended the game before the Mariners could even come to the plate. Unfortunately for Seattle, the A’s did score five runs in the third inning.
Lewis was the No. 11 overall pick by the Mariners in the 2016 draft and is part of the rebuild taking place in Seattle. He is slashing .292/.383/.472 this season with nine home runs and 24 RBIs.
Making more plays like this will put Lewis’ name on the map for all baseball fans and could get him in the Gold Glove conversation moving forward. This catch is even more impressive when considering the hazy air in Seattle.
