The New Orleans Saints are lucky All-Pro wide receiver Michael Thomas wasn’t seriously injured on Sunday, when his ankle buckled at the Superdome.

Michael Thomas was hobbling around some during the Saints’ 34-23 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday afternoon. The superstar was rolled into by his own teammate from behind, catching the leg/ankle area underneath.

However, early reports say Thomas suffered a high-ankle sprain. Although those injuries have been known to sideline players for around a month, Thomas believes he can play through it. The Saints, as noted in the report, have an extra day to prepare and rest this week, with the Las Vegas Raiders on deck come Monday Night Football.

In the victory this weekend, Thomas caught only three passes for 17 yards on five targets. This is coming off a campaign in which Thomas caught an NFL record 149 passes for 1,725 yards and nine touchdowns.

With Emmanuel Sanders in the picture after signing with the Saints on a twi-year deal this offseason, expect Thomas’ share of targets to decrease somewhat. Additionally, natural regression says he won’t match a record-setting pace. Still, provided Thomas isn’t hindered by the ankle, he’s an elite fantasy option with ample upside moving forward.

New Orleans is attempting to move to 2-0 agents the Raiders, trying to get an edge in what should be a competitive NFC South. However, the Saints were the only team in the division to win in Week 1, with the Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers both falling at home to the Seattle Seahawks and Raiders, respectively.
