2. Philadelphia 76ers

Wojnarowski instantly reported D’Antoni would be among the candidates for the 76ers job, which is surely no accident. The ill-conceived roster reshaping general manager Elton Brand did to make Brett Brown’s job harder may start to be undone this offseason, and that would be an absolute prerequisite to making D’Antoni’s offense a success in Philadelphia.

D’Antoni may want input in offseason moves to reshape a roster in an image that better fits what he wants to do, if that type of roster does not exist with a team that wants to hire him. But as the 76ers entertain a (needed) reshaping/bolstering of their front office structure, a coach who wants some personnel power might not be (and really should not be) a turn-off.

D’Antoni might be the guy who can take the 76ers all the way from “The Process” to an Eastern Conference title or more. A more modern set of thinking and processes from the coach, in concert with moving the roster back in the direction of surrounding Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons with shooting, is necessary even if D’Antoni isn’t ultimately the hire.
