Trent Grisham pimped a home run like no other off Clayton Kershaw

Player retribution is as relevant as ever in today’s MLB, with the San Diego Padres finding that out first-hand earlier this season against the Texas Rangers. While Fernando Tatis, Jr. wasn’t at the center of this controversy, Grisham took his place with a bomb off Kershaw and subsequent stare towards the Los Angeles Dodgers dugout.

Suffice to say, the Dodgers didn’t like that Grisham wait around at home plate to enjoy his home run, and his jawing with the Los Angeles dugout won’t do him any favors, either.

The Padres are walking a very fine line between fun and cocky. They’re fine towing that line until proven wrong.

Hopefully the Dodgers don’t take matters into their own hands and escalate the conflict

The Dodgers have already been involved in an on-field conflict this season, getting into it with the Houston Astros thanks to Joe Kelly. The Padres, meanwhile, infamously made baseball fun again against the Texas Rangers.

Watching opposing pitchers bean hitters creates incredible television, but it’s not remotely safe, especially for two likely playoff teams. The Padres and Dodgers are favorites out West, and rather than let this petty disagreement descend into chaos, they ought to let their play do the talking.

Tatis, Jr. gets most of the headlines for the Padres as the face of the “new school” of baseball stars, but he’s far from the only player embracing the movement. Manny Machado and Grisham are just a few of San Diego’s finest willing to ruffle some feathers to benefit the greater good and get into their opposition’s head.

As the Dodgers are showing us, it works quite well.
