Should the Browns trade Odell Beckham Jr. after nightmare Week 1?
The Cleveland Browns had a Week 1 to forget against the Ravens and Odell Beckham Jr. was not happy throughout the game.
Things truly could not have gone worse for the Cleveland Browns in their season-opening loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. Not only were they dominated from start to finish, but Baker Mayfield looked far from a former No. 1 overall pick.
And as you might have guessed, Odell Beckham Jr. looked miserable with Cleveland struggling. He and Mayfield couldn’t get on the same page at all throughout the game, with the superstar wide receiver hauling in only three of 10 targets for 22 yards in the 38-6 loss.
With Beckham’s body language getting worse and worse after each missed connection, coupled with how unhappy he was last season, it increasingly feels the move to Cleveland hasn’t been a good fit for a while now. With that being said, should the Browns consider trading him?
The Browns would be making a big mistake trading Odell Beckham Jr. so early on this season
While rumors are already starting to fly the Browns could look to deal Beckham, it’d be a major mistake. When healthy and producing, the speedster is no doubt one of the best wideouts in the game. His acrobatic catches will be talked about for decades.
If Cleveland has any chance of turning the season around, they’ll need Beckham to be the leader of the offense and help spread the field. Right now, though, he and Mayfield just need to get on the same page. What we saw on Sunday was tough to watch, with the Browns’ starting signal-caller looking sluggish throughout. That’s not on Beckham.
Plus, what kind of an offer would Cleveland be able to get right now after the Week 1 disappointment? They’d be selling low on a guy who has all the potential in the world. While teams like the San Francisco 49ers, Miami Dolphins and many others would dream of landing Beckham, Cleveland can’t rush into things and trade him away.
As bad as Week 1 was for the Browns, there’s still 15 more games left in the regular season. Beckham and Mayfield have the opportunity to get back on the right track this Thursday night against the Bengals. With a big win and a strong showing from the two, these talks of a potential trade can quickly be wiped away.
