1. Cam Newton vs. the Seahawks front seven

The Patriots defeated the Dolphins comfortably in Week 1, but their offensive success wasn’t a product of Cam Newton’s success in the passing game. Instead, New England unveiled a running attack that plays to the strengths of their new quarterback.

Newton ran the ball 15 times for 75 yards and two touchdowns against Miami. Those aren’t eye-popping numbers, but they did help New England punish the Dolphins defense on the ground.

The Seahawks have the talent to provide a sterner challenge to the Patriots run game. Bobby Wagner will be the key for Seattle from his middle linebacker spot. His ability to read Newton’s intentions on the ground game will be key for the Seahawks.

Bill Belichick and his offensive coaching staff will like their chances to take advantage of the rest of the Seahawks linebacking corps though. K.J. Wright is a good player, but is starting to lose some athleticism due to his age. New England will like their chances to get to the second level and negate any Seattle linebacker not named Wagner in this one.

If the Patriots are going to top Seattle they’ll need to control the ball with their ground game. Newton doesn’t need to make spectacular plays with his legs, but he needs to keep the chains moving. Keeping the ball away from Russell Wilson will be a central tenant of Belichick’s game plan in Week 2.
