Padres walking fine line between fun and cocky
The San Diego Padres have provided plenty of excitement to the bigs this summer, but are they pushing the limits?
Don’t look now, but the San Diego Padres have become one of the most entertaining clubs in Major League Baseball. With so much star power throughout their lineup, it should come as no surprise they’ve emerged as a hot team and are breathing down the Los Angeles Dodgers’ necks in the NL West standings.
But, with so much pep in their step, are the Padres getting a little bit too arrogant for their own good? That question arose the second Trent Grisham decided to showboat like a college kid after he took Clayton Kershaw for a ride on Monday night in a 7-2 win.
Trent Grisham delivering a bat flip after blasting a homer off Clayton Kershaw wasn’t a good look
As you can see in the video above, Grisham really took things to a new level for the Padres when he not only did a bat flip, but strutted his stuff after blasting his dinger off Kershaw. Was it a beautiful homer? Of course. Did he really need to behave the way he did after making sweet contact? Absolutely not.
Dave Roberts and the rest of the Dodgers were not happy after that incident and no one can blame them for that. For the Padres, that’s just the kind of swagger they’ve found within themselves now that they’re playing at a strong level.
As things stand, the Padres are 32-17 on the year and have gone a head-turning 9-1 in their last 10 showdowns. Because of that hot stretch, they’re only 1.5 games behind the Dodgers in the division title race. If they end up overtaking LA in the NL West, we might be seeing more over-the-top antics. Let’s hope that’s not the case.
