2021 NFL Mock Draft: Bengals add more protection for Joe Burrow
By Brad Weiss
The 2020 NFL season has officially started, and we saw some interesting results in Week 1. With Week 1 in the books, here is our latest 2021 NFL Mock Draft.
Week 1 of the 2020 NFL season is officially in the books, as the Tennessee Titans closed out Week 1 with a victory on the road against the Denver Broncos. We saw some surprising results in Week 1, including a Washington Football Team victory, and the Jacksonville Jaguars won despite Philip Rivers throwing for 363 yards.
With that said, here is our latest 2021 NFL Mock Draft based on the current Super Bowl odds at Action Network.
The Jacksonville Jaguars got off to a fast start to the 2020 NFL season, beating the Indianapolis Colts at home by the score of 27-20. The Jaguars got a fantastic effort from quarterback Gardner Minshew, who tied a career-high with three touchdown passes in the victory over Philip Rivers and company.
While Minshew played terrific, if the Jaguars finish with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, there is no way they can pass on Trevor Lawrence. Many feel he is one of the better quarterback prospects we have seen in a long time, and the Jaguars are in the middle of a major rebuild.
The Joe Burrow Era in Cincinnati kicked off with a loss at home to the Los Angeles Chargers, as Bengals squandered a 13-6 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Burrow looked good through the air, and on the ground, but there is obviously work to be done before this Bengals team does anything of substance.
Though the team did pick Jonah Williams in the first round in 2019, they should continue to invest in that offensive line, protecting Burrow at all costs. Penei Sewell is the consensus best offensive tackle in the draft class, and teaming him with Williams gives Burrow the bookends he needs at the position for the foreseeable future.
The Carolina Panthers played host to the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, as head coach Matt Rhule made his NFL debut. Unfortunately, the Raiders offense was just too much for this Panthers defense, as Josh Jacobs rushed for three touchdowns, and Derek Carr went untouched the entire game.
Carolina did get a good game from Teddy Bridgewater, who is a full-time starter for the first time since his Minnesota days. Even with Bridgewater’s play, the Panthers will likely draft a quarterback if they are selecting this high in April, and Justin Fields has the arm talent, and feet to be a dynamic player at the next level.
