There is not enough talent to merit starting any fantasy football personnel in Week 2’s Thursday Night Football (TNF) game between the Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns.

After whetting our appetite for football by starting the season last Thursday night with the Houston Texans and the NFL champion Kansas City Chiefs, the league schedule makers follow up with two pro football teams with a combined record of 28-67-1 over the last three seasons.

Maybe the location – FirstEnergy Stadium – will give us a hint on the outcome of Thursday night’s game.  Neither team’s first games of 2020 provided insights on how good Cincinnati or Cleveland will be this season.  The two teams combined for 19 points and surrendered 46 points.  They also have identical 0-1 records.

What’s funny (and maybe it isn’t) is you could hype this game as a battle between two Heisman Trophy winners.  But Baker Mayfield, the Browns starting quarterback, hasn’t given the “Dawg Pound” much to bark about and Cincinnati starting quarterback Joe Burrow has just a one-game sample size.

Surefire Starters

  • From a fantasy football point of view (POV), there are no surefire starters in this game.

Riding the Bench

  • If you drafted a Cincinnati Bengal or Cleveland Brown, you should consider this game a “Bye” week.

Underrated

  • Joe Mixon, Cincinnati Bengals running back, could be a valuable No. 3 RB on someone’s fantasy team.   He might score between 15 and 20 fantasy points Thursday night, though he still needs to provide consistent fantasy football results.

Overrated

  • Baker Mayfield, Cleveland Browns QB, to wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. (aka OBJ) maybe the most overrated passing combo in the NFL.  OBJ was targeted 10 times and caught 3 passes fo 22 yards.

Sleeper

  • A.J. Green, Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver, is a sentimental “Sleeper” choice.  He was a perennial Tier 1 or 2 receiver in past years of fantasy football.  Thursday night’s game could provide him with a 20+ point performance.

The bottom line is the best games with the most productive fantasy football athletes are playing this weekend.  Who knows?  Thursday night;s game could end in a 6-6 tie.

Kickoff is at 8:20 p.m. on Thursday night for the Cincinnati Bengals-Cleveland Browns game being played in FirstEnergy Stadium.  The games will be broadcast by the NFL Network.
