Could Micah Parsons return to Penn State now that the Big Ten is playing a football season? James Franklin isn’t shutting the door entirely.

What a week it has been for Big Ten football fans, especially those who love their Penn State Nittany Lions. That’s because the Big Ten has reversed course and there will be a 2020 football season coming this fall. The schedules are still being made at the time of this writing.

While James Franklin and his coaches are undoubtedly fired up to get their players back on the gridiron, could more breaking news end up making its way to the program soon? Moving forward, all eyes will be on Micah Parsons to see if the All-American linebacker ends up returning to the team.

When asked about that possibility this week, Franklin certainly left the door open for that potentially happening. A cryptic tweet from Parsons on Tuesday gave fans, even more, hope as well.

James Franklin would welcome back Micah Parsons with open arms if he decides to play this season

Parsons, who’s expected to be a first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, opted out of the season in early August. Shortly after, the Big Ten announced the fall season had been officially postponed.

Now with play set to resume, Penn State fans everywhere are sitting on pins and needles to see if Parsons himself decides to rejoin the team.

“Well, you always keep the door open but, um, I think there’s obviously a big difference between somebody that opted out a week ago compared to somebody that opted out multiple weeks ago,” Franklin said via 247Sports. “It just it makes it more complicated. So it was pretty fun hitting Micah up right after it happened and watching all the fans go crazy.

“So we’ll see… we’ll see how it all plays out, but obviously it makes it more complicated the longer they’ve been gone. But I also know that Micah, as well as others, probably wouldn’t be in this situation if it wasn’t for the circumstances that we’re under. I don’t think that anybody — the NCAA, the Big Ten, Penn State specifically, can just put this back into the same box that it’s always been in because nothing right now is like it’s always been.”

While Penn State fans wait to see when the team will take the field for the season-opener, they’ll also be refreshing Parsons’ Twitter page consistently to see if he ends up making his way back to the program to join his teammates.
