This weekend’s game between Baylor and Houston has been postponed.

The Baylor Bears are off to a tough start in the college football season. The team had its first game against Louisiana Tech called off due to positive COVID-19 tests. The Houston Cougars faced a similar scenario as they had a game with Memphis postponed for the same reason.

The two schools made magic happen and scheduled a matchup for this weekend in Waco. Unfortunately, that game has been postponed as well and both teams will keep waiting to play in 2020.

A rough start for Baylor and Houston

This is obviously frustrating for fans on both sides. However, these are the protocols in place and ultimately it is for the safety of the student-athletes on both sides of the field. Both teams do have games scheduled for next Saturday and if the positive tests are only on the Baylor side, Houston should be good to go.

The game against Louisiana Tech was postponed due to positive tests from that program. A hurricane struck and the players were forced off campus, adding a whole new element to staying safe during this ongoing pandemic.

There are plenty of fans on social media expressing outrage at this decision. Once again, this is all about the safety of the players. Baylor still has a full conference slate of games to play and a few open dates on the schedule if they want to reschedule this game against Houston.

Houston is facing a similar scenario with open dates and still has a full conference slate as well. The goal now should be to return to campus and ensure everyone continues to test negative before next Saturday’s scheduled game against North Texas.

There is plenty of frustration to go around. That is just the reality of the situation right now. Being extra cautious is never a bad strategy.
