Manchester United transfer target now drawing interest from Liverpool
Manchester United want to add pace to their wing by signing Ismaila Sarr this summer. Now they’ll need to fight Liverpool for his services.
If Manchester United are going to add a pacy winger capable of strengthening their attack this season they’ll need to move quickly. Jadon Sancho and Gareth Bale are both out of the club’s reach. Now it appears that United have serious competition in the race to sign Watford star Ismaila Sarr.
According to ESPN, Liverpool are set to turn their attention to the 22-year-old wide man now that Thiago Alcantara is on his way to Anfield. The Reds don’t necessarily need to add another starter to Jurgen Klopp’s squad, but they would love to add Sarr as a potential change of pace off the bench.
What could Ismaila Sarr do for Manchester United or Liverpool?
The good news for United is that Liverpool are still in the early stages of negotiating with Watford. They’ve registered their interest in Sarr, but no transfer fee has been firmly agreed upon as of yet. That means there’s still time for United to overtake their Premier League rivals.
On the other hand, it is a bit concerning that United aren’t further along in their quest to add another attacking player this summer. Officials at Old Trafford still hold out hope that Borussia Dortmund might soften their stance on Sancho as the Transfer Deadline approaches, but German sources claim the Bundesliga club are dug in. If Sancho isn’t available, United will be forced to scramble to find an alternative in the coming weeks.
Sarr seems to be the best, and potentially safest, of those options. He was a bright light for Watford during Premier League play last season. His skills on the wing weren’t enough to keep the Hornets in England’s top-flight, but he did win a lot of admirers with his stellar performances. Sarr may not have world-class potential, but there’s no doubt he can do a job against any club in the Premier League.
Look for this transfer race to get quite heated between United and Liverpool before it reaches its ultimate conclusion. Neither side will want to allow the other to secure a bargain. Watford are in a great position to get a terrific fee for their prized asset.
