NL MVP power rankings: A battle between Fernando Tatis Jr. and Mookie Betts

The NL MVP trophy should land somewhere on the West Coast but can anyone surprise in the final weeks of the season?

In a truncated 60-game season, awards like MVP or Cy-Young can be hard to pick with such a small sample size of games, but that doesn’t mean this award won’t be fun to watch play out. Especially with the expanded postseason this season, players who would typically never be considered MVP candidates are being given a chance to shine in 2020.

However, there have been some clear key contributors for contenders this year in the National League, so here’s how our power rankings shake out with just under two weeks left in the regular season.

The 27-year-old shortstop has carried the Rockies offense this year, which is impressive given he plays next superstar third baseman Nolan Arenado and his teammate Charlie Blackmon was hitting over .400 for the majority of August. Story currently leads the Rockies in home runs (11), OPS (.942), and walks (22 walks, 10.3 percent walk rate), giving him the 5th best fWAR in the NL.

Story is a true five-tool player as well, stealing 14 bases this season to go along with an impressive 5 defensive runs saved, the shortstop has done a little bit of everything for Colorado and it showed early on when the team was leading the NL West. The Rockies have cooled off since their 11-5 start though, winning just two series since that mark, but Story has done enough to warrant being included on this list.
