Mind-blowing college football stats from Week 3 include Clemson re-confirming themselves as the kings of the ACC while D’Eriq King sees his impressive dual-threat record snapped.

Week 3 of the 2020 college football season was somewhat short on marquee matchups. The marquee stats on the other hand? Those were off the charts. Whether you caught the action on Saturday or are just checking in, these are the stats you need to know:

1. D’Eriq King’s passing and rushing touchdown spree ends

D’Eriq King’s impressive and unique record for passing and rushing touchdowns has finally come to an end. Up until Saturday’s game between Miami and Louisville, the dynamic quarterback had scored a touchdown on the ground and through the air in 16 consecutive games.

King got the passing touchdown, but he didn’t find a way to use his legs to score as well.

Even though its over, the streak will stand as one of the most impressive for a quarterback in college football. Before King came along, Tim Tebow held the record with a 14-game stretch with both forms of touchdowns. Now it’ll be up to someone else to take a run at King’s mark.

2. Trevor Lawrence extends interception-free stretch

Trevor Lawrence didn’t need to attempt many passes in Clemson’s 49-0 win over The Citadel. The ones he did throw extended his streak of consecutive passes without an interception to 276. That 10-game period is good for third in ACC history. Lawrence is now within reach of Russell Wilson‘s all-time ACC record for the longest interception-free stretch at 379. He’ll need to start throwing the ball a lot more this season. Too many more blowouts with just nine passes attempted won’t get him to 380 passes any time soon.

3. Clemson extends their CFB-best home-winning streak

Thanks in no small part to Lawrence, Clemson has now won 23-straight games at home. The Tigers’ last home loss was all the way back in 2016 against No. 22 Pitt. That defeat came by one point, otherwise, their streak would extend through 2013. If the streak ends any time soon it’ll have to come via an upset. Clemson’s remaining home opponents include Virginia,  Miami, Syracuse, Boston College and Pitt.

4. Clemson takes ACC record for longest regular-season streak

It’s one thing to have a long home winning streak, but the Tigers are also building an impressive regular-season run. They now own the ACC record for the longest regular-season win streak ever at 31 games without a loss. Saturday’s 49-0 win over The Citadel put them ahead of Florida State’s 30-game run from 2013-2015. Clemson’s only loss last season was in the national title game against LSU. The year before they went 15-0 with 12 regular-season victories. You have to go back to Oct. 17, 2017, to find the Tigers’ last loss in the regular season.

5. Navy produces the largest comeback in school history

After their Week 1 decimation at the hands of BYU, it was looking extra concerning for Navy when they let Tulane jump out to a 24-0 lead at the half in Week 3. Credit to the Midshipman, they didn’t hang their heads. Instead, they pulled off the biggest comeback in school history. In the second half, Navy used a complete team performance to score 27-unanswered points. Nelson Smith punched in two short touchdowns on the ground. The defense forced a safety. Dalen Morris hit Mychal Cooper for a 32-yard touchdown pass. Finally, Bijan Nichols booted a 33-yard field goal as time expired to win.

6. Notre Dame’s home-winning streak grows

Clemson isn’t the only program working on a home-winning streak. Notre Dame’s 52-0 win over USF extended their run to 20 games. That’s the third-longest active streak in college football and the second-longest in Notre Dame history. Brian Kelly’s team has done what no Irish team has managed since a 28-game stretch from 1942 to 1950 with no home losses. Challenging for the longest streak in school history would take quite the effort. Notre Dame has four more home games to play this season, but one of those is against No. 1 Clemson.

Ian Book makes Notre Dame quarterback history

Quarterback Ian Book was a driving force behind the Irish’s big win on Saturday. Along the way, he set a new Notre Dame record. Book had three rushing touchdowns in the first half against USF. One was a scramble. Two more were quarterback sneaks. No quarterback in Notre Dame history had ever had that kind of success on the ground.
