Ian Book makes Notre Dame history in rout of South Florida
Notre Dame’s Ian Book set a school record while leading the Irish to victory over South Florida.
For most players, netting nine yards in four carries wouldn’t be much of a stat line. For Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book, it was history-making.
Book scored three touchdowns on his four carries on Saturday, punching in each of them in the first half of the Irish’s blowout win over South Florida, 52-0.
No Notre Dame quarterback had ever done that before, according to The Athletic.
Ian Book and the Irish bulldozed South Florida on the ground.
It was a banner day for Notre Dame’s rushing attack across the board. C’Bo Flemister led the team with 126 yards on 13 carries, including a 26-yard score in the second quarter. Chris Tyree had 65 yards and a touchdown on eight carries. Kyren Williams added 62 yards on 10 carries.
Even Jafar Armstrong got into the mix with a score — the sixth and final rushing touchdown of the outing for the Irish.
Book got the scoring started with a four-yard scramble early in the first quarter.
He followed that up with two second-quarter QB sneaks as the Irish piled on the points.
South Florida never really had a chance.
It was a different story to last week when the Irish looked a bit shaky in their ACC opener against Duke. The Irish had a 10-6 lead going into halftime but ended up pulling away in the second half. No post-halftime push was needed this time around.
Notre Dame will hope to bring the momentum of the South Florida win into next week. They face their first road trip of the campaign against Wake Forest next Saturday.
