Miami football unveils new and improved (and sanitized) turnover chain (Video)
Miami football has a brand new turnover chain for 2020.
Miami football had to wait a week to unveil their brand new turnover chain, but it was worth it.
The Hurricanes are now sporting a snazzy chain with the state of Florida in the background behind a sparkling U logo.
The design harkens back to the original turnover chain from 2017 with the bonus of highlighting South Florida counts of Dade, Broward and Palm Beach.
Junior cornerback Al Blades Jr. was the first to wear it in 2020 when he picked off Lousivilleās Malik Cunningham late in the second quarter.
And of course, because of COVID-19, the chain is being sanitized after each use.
Miami football needs to see the turnover chain often in 2020.
Even though the Hurricanes failed to pull out the turnover chain in their opener against UAB, they were still able to pull away in the second half to win the game comfortably 31-14.
On Saturday, they faced a tougher test in No. 18 Louisville. They looked up for it in the first half, going up 20-6.
Miami was able to ride a 17-yard touchdown pass from DāEriq King to Will Mallory and a Jaylan Knighton three-yard run to a 14-3 lead in the opening quarter.
They added two Jose Borrregales field goals, including a 57-yarder, in the second quarter beforeĀ Bladesā late interception capped the half.
In the second half, the Hurricanes will look to maintain control of the game while seeking more opportunities to show off the turnover chain.
At quarterback, King is also pursuing a 17th-straight game with a passing and rushing touchdown. He already has the former in the bag.
