In the first college football game of 2020 between two ranked teams, the Miami Hurricanes take on the Louisville Cardinals in an ACC early-season showdown.

Both the Miami Hurricanes and the Louisville Cardinals started off their season with a win in their opening game of the 2020 season but now go head-to-head in Week 3 in the first matchup between two ranked opponents.

Miami started off their season with a win over the UAB Blazers. The Blazers played tough and gave the Hurricanes a fight, jumping out to a 7-0 lead late in the first quarter and keeping things close until midway through the third quarter. But that’s when quarterback D’Eriq King and the Hurricane offense took over, scoring 14-unanswered points to increase their lead and put UAB away for good. King, who was playing his first game in a Miami uniform, got his season off to a good start, totaling over 220 total yards, scoring two touchdowns, and completing 66% of his passes. The highlight of the game for the Hurricanes was the 337 rushing yards they racked up on offense while their defense allowed just 80 yards.

The Louisville Cardinals started 2020 with a 35 to 21 victory over the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. Both teams scored rather quickly, but a 21-point 2nd quarter gave Louisville a 28-7 lead that would end up being too much for Western Kentucky to overcome. Louisville’s quarterback, Micale Cunningham, had a stellar performance, throwing for 343 yards and three touchdowns, and running for one score as well. The Cardinals’ defense was dominant in defending the pass, allowing only 129 yards in the air and allowing just 43% of the Hilltoppers’ passes to be completed.

Heading into the matchup between Miami and Louisville, the storyline of the game will be that of the showdown between the two teams’ quarterbacks: King vs Cunningham. Both quarterbacks can spread the wealth amongst their receivers while throwing for 300+ yards, but both can also extend drives and make big plays with their legs. But the matchup that could determine the outcome of the game is Miami’s rush offense versus the Cardinals’ rush defense. If Miami can move the ball on the ground, it’s going to make things a lot easier for King and they could come out on top.

Here’s how to watch and bet on the Miami vs Louisville game:

  • Date: Saturday, Sept. 19
  • Start Time: 7:30 p.m. ET
  • Location: Louisville, Kentucky
  • Stadium: Cardinal Stadium
  • TV Info: ESPN
  • Odds: Louisville -2.5, O/U 64.5
  • Live Stream: WatchESPN

Prediction: Both quarterbacks are going to come out and have great games, keeping both of their teams battling until the final whistle. The Cardinals’ defense allowed over 200 rushing yards per game in 2019 and did not have a great start of showing improvements in defending the run in the season opener. The Hurricanes offense is carried by it’s run game, totaling over 200 yards on the ground and multiple scores. Cunningham has a repeat performance from a week ago, but it is not enough as the Hurricanes get off to an impressive 2-0 start.

Score: Miami 38, Louisville 34.
