Mike Norvell reveals he tested positive for COVID-19
By John Buhler
Mike Norvell won’t coach vs. Miami football next week because of COVID-19.
In an unpredictable college football season, even head coaches are susceptible to COVID-19.
With a week off between ACC games, the Florida State Seminoles look to regroup after a brutal home loss to the lowly Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. It was so bad that Florida State fans were asking for Norvell to be fired after one game. Well, he will have to wait until at least October to get his first Florida State win, as he will not coach his team on Sept. 26 vs. the Miami Hurricanes.
Can Odell Haggins lead Florida State football to its first 2020 victory?
Because Norvell will not make the trip south to Miami Gardens, we can assume associate head coach Odell Haggins will lead the Seminoles in two weeks vs. the rival Hurricanes. Haggins has served as the interim before in Tallahassee after Jimbo Fisher left for the Texas A&M Aggies in 2017 and after Willie Taggart was let go mid-season last year. He might actually win this one.
See, Miami will be coming off a tough road game vs. the Louisville Cardinals before their home date vs. Florida State. Though Louisville is the better program right now under Scott Satterfield than Florida State is under Norvell, Miami may want to beat up on a bewildered Florida State team when they are even more vulnerable than expected. This is a bitter rivalry game after all, folks.
Even though we’re not entirely sure if Manny Diaz will be a good head coach for the ‘Canes, this is a game Miami should beat Florida State at home in early ACC play this season. However, Florida State was humiliated last week by falling at home to arguably the worst team in the ACC in Georgia Tech. It was a terrible look for Norvell and his clearly rebuilding Florida State program.
Wouldn’t it be something if Haggins got the Seminoles the W down in Miami instead of Norvell?
