Justin Fields’ reaction to facing Nebraska football in Week 1 is fantastic.

Big Ten football is back and Justin Fields could not be happier to play Nebraska football Week 1.

The Heisman Trophy finalist from a season ago will indeed play his true junior season with the Ohio State Buckeyes in 2020 before presumably going pro. It’ll be a nine-game, conference-only slate, but Fields was ecstatic to know his Buckeyes will be facing the Nebraska Cornhuskers in The Horseshoe Week 1. He is simply beside himself to be playing college football for one last ride.

“Definitely exciting, Fields said on College GameDay. “It’s just mind-blowing that the way God works.”

Should Nebraska take this as a sign of disrespect or accept certain defeat?

Though Nebraska may eventually get back to respectability under head coach Scott Frost, the gap between the Cornhuskers and the Buckeyes is cavernous. Ohio State may lose a game this season, as the Buckeyes are expected to win the Big Ten yet again and get back into the College Football Playoff. Nebraska will be lucky if it can finish in third place in the Big Ten West in 2020.

Even if Ohio State will beat the snot out of Nebraska in Week 1, both programs should be immensely proud of their part in getting the Big Ten football season back on track. Players, parents, athletic directors and school presidents at both The Ohio State University and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln fought so incredibly hard for their right to play some ball.

Other programs were adamant about playing, but Nebraska and Ohio State were in a league among themselves. For Fields, him just hearing that his team’s Week 1 opponent will be Nebraska is an instant realization that he will have one more college season left before being a first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He can win a Heisman Trophy and a national title before turning pro.

With Ohio State drawing Nebraska and the Illinois Fighting Illini out of the Big Ten West, the Buckeyes have arguably the most navigable schedule in the Big Ten this year. Yes, they have to go to Happy Valley and play the Penn State Nittany Lions on Halloween, as well as host the arch-rival Michigan Wolverines in mid-December, but they play those teams every year and usually win.

Ohio State has already started to throw the dirt on Nebraska, guaranteeing their Week 1 victory.
