Anthony Davis gave the Lakers a 2-0 with one of the best shots of the postseason.

The Los Angeles Lakers were two seconds away from being tied 1-1 with the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals. Nikola Jokic had put the Nuggets up 103-102 with 20 seconds left and the Lakers had an in-bounds play from their own baseline with two seconds remaining.

Frank Vogel drew up an amazing play that saw Anthony Davis catch the ball from behind the three-point line. He called “game” and that was that.

Anthony Davis is the hero for the Lakers

Davis had 31 points on the night and also the final 10 points of the game for the Lakers. The team didn’t need a three to win, but the play opened up a shot for Davis and Jokic was not in time to get a block to preserve the victory.

This is a brutal loss for a Nuggets team that outscored the Lakers by eight points in the second half. Jokic had 30 points and Jamal Murray added 25 of his own. But while Murray had a mark of plus-16 on the night, Jokic finished at minus-6.

The Lakers were too much and Davis’ 31 points was complemented by LeBron James’ 26 points and 11 rebounds. Both Danny Green and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope finished with 11 points and Alex Caruso added nine off the bench.

This is not foreign territory for the Nuggets this postseason. Denver has already come back from two separate 3-1 deficits and just took down a great Los Angeles Clippers team. Perhaps the team just needs some added motivation to get in gear.

The Lakers are still the clear favorites, however, the Nuggets proved they can hang with the best in the NBA. The lack of true homecourt helps the Nuggets here, with the only problem being the duo of Davis and James being nearly unstoppable.

Game 3 is Tuesday and the top priority for the Nuggets should be to hold Davis under 30 points for the first time in the series.
