Harrison Butker kicks game-winning field goal to spoil Justin Herbert’s debut (Video)

The Kansas City Chiefs eked out a victory against the Los Angeles Chargers after a game-winning Harrison Butker kick.
If there were an NFL Game of the Week candidate, it would have to be the Kansas City Chiefs vs. the Los Angeles Chargers. We were in for quite the treat after receiving the surprise that sixth-overall pick Justin Herbert was starting for the Chargers in place of an injured Tyrod Taylor. The majority of the game was in the Chargers’ favor, but Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs came back at the very end to tie the game and send it into overtime.
In the free football period, the Chargers had a three-and-out and punted the ball to the Chiefs. Unluckily for Los Angeles, they’d never get the ball back. Kansas City worked their way downfield, and on fourth down, they sent out kicker Harrison Butker to end the game.
Butker nailed the first 53-yard attempt but were moved back five yards due to a penalty. On the next attempt, Butker narrowly made the 58-yarder, but the Chargers called a timeout in an attempt to ice him. But just like Michael Jordan, Butker took that personally, and successfully converted on the following attempt to give the Chiefs the 23-20 victory.
Harrison Butker comes up in the clutch
Butker was three-for-three on the day, as he made the 30-yard game-tying field goal to send it to overtime and two 58-yarders. This is why Butker is up there with Justin Tucker of the Baltimore Ravens as the most reliable kickers in the NFL.
As for the Chiefs, they overcame a slow start to move to a perfect 2-0 record. But if they learned one thing, it’s that the Chargers will present themselves as a problem for the Chiefs with Herbert under center for the foreseeable future.
CBS commentator Tony Romo said it best, Butker is the NFL’s version of Mariano Rivera.
