Tyrod Taylor had to go to the hospital Sunday.

One of the bigger stories from Week 2 came when the Los Angeles Chargers called upon rookie Justin Herbert to start against the Kansas City Chiefs. This came as a shocking move, but it had nothing to do with the play of Tyrod Taylor.

The veteran was a late scratch and the initial report was lingering problems with a rib injury. It turns out Taylor actually complained of pain in his chest and was even sent to the hospital Sunday afternoon.

Tyrod Taylor still in the mix for Week 3

This is somewhat concerning news for Taylor. He did go through the week with pain in his ribs, so it is possible that was part of the issue. Regardless, it must have been bad if he was sent to the hospital.

His absence allowed rookie Justin Herbert to step in as the starter and throw for 311 yards and a touchdown in an overtime loss to the Chiefs. This came after Taylor struggled in Week 1 against the Cincinnati Bengals. The quarterback finished with 208 yards and went a brutal 16/30 on the day.

The easy move is to keep Herbert in as the starter after his big day. However, head coach Anthony Lynn did come out after the game and say Taylor is still the starter as long as he is healthy for Week 3.

Taylor struggled but clearly not enough for Lynn to use Herbert’s performance as an excuse to bench his veteran. The team is 1-1 so that does give Lynn more time before he is forced to make a change if Taylor is limiting the offense. Herbert is also still a rookie and did not have a preseason. One game won’t define him, good or bad.

Next. Chargers are insane if they don’t start Justin Herbert. dark

Taylor was kept around to start once Philip Rivers was let go and the Chargers aren’t wavering from that plan just yet.
