Anthony Lynn was, for some reason, critical of Justin Herbert.
99.9 percent of observers were blown away by Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert yesterday. Informed by head coach Anthony Lynn he was going to make his NFL debut against the Kansas City Chiefs minutes before kickoff due to a Tyrod Taylor injury, Herbert threw for 311 yards and a touchdown while running in a second score. The Chargers lost, but they took Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs to overtime. The only person on the team who was apparently not thrilled with the No. 6 overall pick’s performance was Lynn himself.
Not only did Lynn confirm that Taylor will remain the starter when healthy, but he actually claimed Herbert left some plays on the table. He also trashed his franchise quarterback by saying that he was “a backup for a reason” in one of the most counterproductive quotes you’ll hear all season.
Anthony Lynn elaborating on why Tyrod Taylor is still his starter: "There's a lot we didn't get done with Justin on the field yesterday. He's a backup for a reason." #Chargers

Justin Herbert played much better against Kansas City than Tyrod Taylor did against Cincinnati
While Taylor led the Chargers to a win against the Cincinnati Bengals, he did so while completing just 53 percent of his passes and managing just 208 yards passing against an awful Bengals defense. LA only prevailed because of Cincy kicker Randy Bullock’s blunder near the end of the game.
Herbert, who is bigger, stronger, and in possession of superior arm talent when compared to Taylor, took on the defending champions on short notice and immediately showcased accuracy down the field, playmaking out of structure, and solid play in the clutch.
While the Chargers do have a difficult schedule coming up, Herbert is coming off of nearly taking down Kansas City in start No. 1, so using that as an excuse makes minimal sense.
That's still total rubbish. Herbert just had a surprise start against the defending champs and took them to overtime with a 300-yard game, more TDs than turnovers, and he looked way better than Tyrod did a week ago.

This is coaching malpractice. https://t.co/wwqlu5sa2k
Taylor should be in the NFL, but his time as a viable starter has come and gone. Herbert is the future of the Chargers, and he should be the present. If Lynn doesn’t realize that, the Chargers risk imploding this season.
