Christian McCaffrey injury: 5 RBs to replace him with in fantasy football
4. RB Jerick McKinnon, SF
As one fantasy star falls, an opening is made for a one-time hopeful. Jerick McKinnon had all the praise in the world from fantasy analysts two seasons ago when he signed with the San Francisco 49ers to be the lead back in Kyle Shanahan’s offense.
Unfortunately, the injure bug bit him to the point where he would miss all of 2018 and ’19 before finally returning this year to be apart of the team that signed him to big money. And while it has clearly been Raheem Mostert’s team through two weeks, McKinnon has made the most of his small but impressive opportunities.
In just two games to this point, McKinnon has delivered an incredible 16.8 yards per carry. Of course, this has been on a total of six attempts, but still impressive. He has 101 yards rushing to go along with three receptions, 20 receiving yards, and two total touchdowns.
McKinnon has been used in bunches and could have earned a bigger role with last week’s performance. Shanahan has never had a problem with his running backs splitting time, evidence from last year as multiple RBs had at least 100 yards rushing for the team.
McKinnon’s receiving prowess could vault him into a bigger role, setting him up to be a massive player for the 49ers and your fantasy team. And as you attempt to replace Christian McCaffrey, McKinnon could be a player worth taking a shot with, especially considering all the 49ers injuries this season. Take a shot on McKinnon, he could finally be paying off.
