The star outfielder of the Atlanta Braves makes a clutch catch on Monday against the Miami Marlins.

This is the final week of the MLB regular-season, and the Atlanta Braves hold a three game lead over the rival Miami Marlins in the NL East. Ironically enough, both squads are set for a three-game series this week, starting on Monday evening. Usually, when a postseason berth is on the line, a team’s superstar players step up to the occasion. Well, Ronald Acuña Jr. did just that.

During the top of the fourth inning, the Braves held a 5-3 lead. Marlins designated hitter Garrett Cooper hit a shallow blooper between left and center field off a pitch from Tyler Matzek. It appeared that the ball was going to land for a base hit, but Acuña prevented it from happening with a spectacular diving catch.

Acuña shows up when it matters the most

Prior to that extended grab, Acuña put the Braves on the board with a ground-rule double in the bottom of the second inning, allowing shortstop Dansby Swanson to score.

Entering Monday’s game, Acuña owned a .259 batting average, .422 on-base percentage and .615 slugging percentage. Additionally, the outfielder recorded 35 hits, 39 runs scored, 13 home runs and 27 RBI.

The Braves aren’t just trying to hold back the Marlins from creeping up the standings, but they’re also attempting to take the No. 2 seed from the Chicago Cubs. If Acuña continues to show off this defensive prowess for the remainder of the week, then Atlanta has a good shot of doing so.
