Kansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire sees similarities between Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow.

Patrick Mahomes is the best football player on the face of the earth, full stop.

What he’s able to do to swing a game with the flick of his wrist is already the stuff of legend, and it’s the type of rare quality that is almost impossible to replicate. You simply cannot teach what Mahomes is able to do, greatness is inherent.

Joe Burrow isn’t anywhere near Mahomes’ level yet, but he could be on his way in due time.

Kansas City Chiefs rookie running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire is the only player to have ever played with both Mahomes and Burrow, and he doesn’t have to look hard to see distinct similarities between them.

“They always seem like they’re just chilling,” Edwards-Helaire told FanSided’s Mark Carman. “The way they carry themselves, the way they make calls or see things in pressure moments is something I’ve ultimately grateful I’ve been able to be around.”

Edwards-Helaire played with Burrow at LSU, and won a National Championship along side him in 2019. Burrow’s historic final season with the Tigers served as the perfect showcase of Edwards-Helaire’s abilities and helped propel him to being a first round pick in last year’s NFL Draft. He would have been great no matter who was his quarterback at LSU but the fact that it was Burrow helped unlock another crazy level to his game.

He now goes from that to Mahomes, perhaps the greatest player in recent memory to unlock the deepest levels of talent in the players around him. Much like his time at LSU, Edwards-Helaire was already going to be a dangerous rookie but having Mahomes there to showcase his talents has made him even better.

Burrow has started off his rookie season losing, which is doing the one thing he never did in his career. But while analysts and fans have recognized that there’s something special about Burrow that will only continue to grow, Edwards-Helaire has had a front row seat to what Burrow was at LSU and what he could be in being Mahomes-esque.

If the man who has seen them both up close thinks this, Bengals fans should be very excited and LSU fans should remain extremely proud.
