Chiefs may be without Sammy Watkins vs. Ravens on Monday Night Football

Veteran wide receiver Sammy Watkins is dealing with multiple injuries and may not be able to suit up for the Chiefs in the monster AFC showdown against Baltimore. 

Leading up to Monday Night Football’s huge tilt between the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens, star quarterback Patrick Mahomes is practicing this week knowing that he may be without one of his most trustworthy wideouts.

On Thursday, veteran receiver Sammy Watkins was once again unable to practice, as he’s in concussion protocol and he’s also dealing with a neck injury. As things stand, it’s looking like the Chiefs will be without the 6-foot-1, 210-pounder to go up against the Ravens and Lamar Jackson.

Sammy Watkins missing Monday’s game against the Ravens would be a blow for the offense

Watkins suffered his injuries in Sunday’s heart-stopping win against the Los Angeles Chargers. In that victory, Watkins was on the wrong side of a big hit, which was clearly a helmet-to-helmet play.

He was able to walk off the field, but he was clearly quite banged up. He finished that game with one reception for 11 yards before having to call it a day.

In the season-opener against the Texans, Watkins showcased just how lethal he can be catching the ball from Mahomes, as he hauled in seven receptions for 82 yards and a touchdown in the Week 1 victory. If he’s unable to go in Week 3 against Baltimore, that’d obviously be a bummer for Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid.

With the game being on a Monday, it’ll give Watkins an extra day to try and fight his way back to the field in time, but things aren’t looking promising right now. We’ll find out soon enough what Watkins’ status will be for the huge matchup, but things surely aren’t trending in the right direction.
