The SEC is set to kick off its season on Saturday and one of the first match-ups will be between the Florida Gators and the Ole Miss Rebels.

The Florida Gators are coming off a great season that saw them finish with 11-wins, an Orange Bowl victory, and just one game away from playing in the SEC Championship Game, and potentially, the College Football playoff. Since Dan Mullen took over as head coach in 2018, the Gators have posted back-to-back 10-wins seasons, have won two New Year’s Six Bowl Games, and have a 5-3 record against AP ranked opponents.

With success like that over the last two seasons, that means expectations are raised to the highest of highs for 2020: SEC title and the Playoff or bust. Many have the Gators coming out on top of the SEC but that will be no tough task, but in the SEC it never really is. But given the current circumstances and schedule caused by the ongoing pandemic, one loss in the SEC might not be as costly to winning the conference title and/or making the College Football Playoff as it would be for other teams outside of the SEC.

The Gators are on the road in their first game as they travel to Oxford, MS to take on the Ole Miss Rebels, who enter the new decade with a new head coach, Lane Kiffen. Ever since the Billy Brewer days (1983-1993), the Rebels have not had a head coach last more than five seasons and from 2010 to 2019, Ole Miss had three different head coaches. But Kiffin is not new to the SEC, spending three years as the offensive coordinator for Alabama from 2014 to 2016, and one year as the head coach of Tennessee in 2009.

Kiffen takes over an offense that was one of the best in running the ball last season but will look to establish a passing attack that will balance it out. On defense, Kiffin should expect some struggles as the recruiting and development of those players has been sub-par, to the say the least. While yes they have had some top-25 and top-35 classes, they have consistently finished in the bottom half of the SEC in terms of recruiting class rankings.

The Gators are ready to make their run at the College Football Playoff and Ole Mis would love to start off this new era of football with a big-time upset.

Here’s how to watch and bet on the Florida vs. Ole Miss game

Date: Saturday, Sept. 26
Start Time: 12:00 p.m. ET
Location: Oxford, Mississippi
Stadium: Vaught-Hemingway Stadium
TV Info: ESPN
Odds: Florida 13, O/U 57
Live Stream: WatchESPN

Prediction: The Florida Gators win almost every matchup on paper, and given their experience and comradery, they should have no problem winning this game. The Gators defense is going to test this new-look offense of Ole Miss and will be active in the past game with one of the country’s best secondary. Meanwhile, on offense the Gators pass game should set the tone and out Florida ahead early, giving Ole Miss a deficit that is too much to overcome. Gators start off the season perfectly and leave Oxford with the win.

Score: Florida 38, Ole Miss 17
