The Georgia Bulldogs have National Championship dreams and start their journey as they go on the road to face the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday, Sept. 26.

The Georgia Bulldogs enter a new era for the program under Kirby Smart now that Jake Fromm is gone. They had hoped Jamie Newman would take the reins for the 2020 season but, as they are set to open the season against the Arkansas Razorbacks in Week 4, it’ll instead be D’Wan Mathis making his first career start. But even then, hopes remain high for the Dawgs.

Mathis likely won’t be asked to do much on Saturday given his inexperience and the pieces around him on the roster. He has weapons, such as George Pickens, at wide receiver, but Georgia’s defense is possibly the best in college football while the running back duo of Zamir White and James Cook is set to control the game from the opening kickoff.

And to be sure, part of the confidence regarding the Bulldogs in the season-opener is a lack of faith in Arkansas. New head coach Sam Pittman, armed with Kendal Briles running the offense, has hopes of turning the program around. But we’ve seen transfer quarterback Feleipe Franks before and the results weren’t great. Throw in a bad offensive line and a questionable front seven on defense, they are cooking up a recipe to get worked by UGA.

TV Info: ESPN2
Odds: Georgia -28, O/U 53 (via The Action Network)

Prediction: If this one is close, that’s a failure on the part of Smart and his coaching staff. Yes, Mathis is a first-time starter with two new offensive tackles protecting him. Even still, the talent on the Georgia roster is vastly superior to that of Arkansas on both sides of the ball.

The Bulldogs defense should hold the Razorbacks to single digits on the scoreboard in this game while White and Cook run at will on the defense. Because Georgia will likely be conservative, it won’t be a monumental blowout — but it’ll be a blowout nonetheless.

Score: Georgia 38, Arkansas 6
