The LSU Tigers open their title defense against the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Saturday and here’s how to watch and bet on the Week 4 game.

It was a dream season a year ago for Ed Orgeron’s LSU Tigers as Joe Burrow completed the perfect season to lead them to a National Championship victory. But now one year later, things are exceptionally different for the champs, namely their starters. And these new faces will be put to the test in the opening week of SEC play as the Tigers host the Mississippi State Bulldogs at Tiger Stadium.

Myles Brennan will take over for Burrow at quarterback in Death Valley and he has monster shoes to fill. That will be even more difficult to accomplish with wideout Ja’Marr Chase’s decision to opt-out this season. Brennan will likely look to running back Chris Curry, wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. and freshman tight end Arik Gilbert, in addition to Derek Stingley Jr. and the defense, to aid him.

Mississippi State is buzzing with hopes of an upset on Saturday in their season-opener. Not only is LSU inexperienced but the arrival of head coach Mike Leach and quarterback K.J. Costello has fans in Starkville aiming high. While those are two key pieces, they’ll need someone other than Costello or Kylin Hill to step up if an upset win is in the cards.

How to watch LSU vs. Mississippi State and bet on the game at Tiger Stadium on Saturday.

Date: Saturday, Sept. 26
Start Time: 3:30 p.m. ET
Location: Tiger Stadium – Baton Rouge, LA
TV Info: CBS
Odds: LSU -17, O/U 57 (via The Action Network)
Live Stream: CBS All-Access

Prediction: This is a tricky, tricky spot for the reigning champions. LSU is not remotely the team they were a season go, either on the roster or in the coaching offices. But even then, the talent disparity between them and Mississippi State is quite severe. And let’s not forget that the Bulldogs also have their own turnover with a new head coach and quarterback.

Don’t expect this game to be pretty by any stretch. Leach’s offense will likely sputter out of the gate and the same is likely true for the Tigers offense. But when 60 minutes or up, the champs will move to 1-0 with a gritty victory to start the year.

Score: LSU 20, Mississippi State 9
