Week 3 of NFL fantasy football should be productive for quarterback Russell Wilson, running back  Alvin Kamara,  wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins and tight end Travis Kelce.  Each of these players is among the leading scorers at his position.

Let’s start the fantasy football point-of-view (POV) for week 3 with the quarterbacks.

Surefire Starters

  • Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks quarterback, wasn’t on this list the first two weeks, so shame on me for not acknowledging the best quarterback in the NFL after two stellar performances.  This week Wilson is going to rustle some Cowboys who came away with the most unlikely win over Atlanta in week 2.
  • Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals quarterback, is facing the downtrodden Lions.  Murray has already run for more touchdowns (3) than he has passing touchdowns (2).  The Lions surrendered 69 points in their first two games, so they’ll be pretty vulnerable to the Cardinals’ offense.

Riding the Bench

  • Drew Lock, Denver Broncos quarterback, sustained a rotator cuff injury in week 2 that will cost him to miss games in weeks 3 through 5.  At least Denver management expects him to recover within 3 weeks.  Lions fan will recognize the replacement starter, Jeff Driskell, who started for Detroit in 2019 while Matthew Stafford was injured.
  • Tyrod Taylor, Los Angeles Chargers quarterback, was injured in a freak accident prior to the Chargers-Chiefs game in week 2.  Justin Herbert, the rookie quarterback who was L.A.’s first draft pick in 2020, will make his second start against the Carolina Panthers in week 3.

Underrated

  • Jared Goff, Los Angeles Rams quarterback, was scolded by this writer for his lack of touchdown passes last week.  He made up for it with 3 touchdown passes in week 2 and leading the Rams to their 2-0 record.  Goff faces a tough test this week as L.A. travels to Buffalo to face the 2-0 Bills.

Overrated

  • Kirk Cousins, Minnesota Vikings quarterback, has to take some of the responsibility for the Vikings 0-2 start.  He is tied with Philadelphia QB Carson Wentz for the most interceptions (4) and is near the bottom of the quarterback queue in passing yards with 372.

Sleeper QB of the Week

  • Cam Newton, New England Patriots quarterback, didn’t get much praise for his skill set before the season.  But after two games that featured strong performances by the former Carolina starter, Newton may be on the cusp of an All-Pro season.
