Oklahoma defense, Lincoln Riley, Spencer Rattler choke in upset loss to Kansas State
No. 3 Oklahoma was upset at home by Kansas State who scored 17 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to secure the big win.
Oklahoma was supposed to win big vs. Kansas State but no one bothered telling the Wildcats they were supposed to lay down and let the Sooners do whatever they wanted to them.
Kansas State pulled off the biggest upset of the early season and what could be the biggest upset of the entire season with a 38-35 win over No. 3 Oklahoma in Norman.
The Wildcats got 17 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to complete the comeback after trailing 21-7 at halftime. The two traded touchdowns in the third quarter but a blocked punt, inopportune penalties and turnovers doomed the Sooners who couldn’t put them away.
Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler threw a pair of interceptions in the first half, but was otherwise locked in, but his third interception of the day in the closing seconds sealed the fate of the Sooners in what may be the worst loss of Lincoln Riley’s tenure. At least in the regular season.
Their playoff hopes aren’t entirely over, but the margin of error is now gone. Oklahoma has to win out to have a chance to make the four-team field.
As for Rattler, his Heisman hopes may have been dashed with his three-interception performance despite throwing for 387 yards and four touchdowns.
This is a signature win for Kansas State for Chris Klieman who gets a second straight win over the Sooners after last year’s 48-41 win in Manhattan. Don’t sleep on the Wildcats from making some noise in the Big 12 now after this win should give them the confidence to know they can beat anyone on their schedule.
