The Texas Longhorns travel to Lubbock to take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders in a Lone Star State showdown to kick off conference play.

Both the Texas Longhorns and the Texas Tech Red Raiders started off the season 1-0, but their wins could not have been any more opposite of one another. The Longhorns played UTEP, and as expected, blew them out to the point their second and third stringers got a half of football all to themselves. Sam Ehlinger looked in prime form, passing for 426 yards and five touchdowns in the first half. But it wasn’t just the passing game that was on in the season opener as the Longhorns ran for over 200 yards as well.

The Red Raiders on the other hand struggles against Houston Baptist, a school many outside of the state of Texas probably never knew existed, let alone that they had a football team. Anytime that the Red Raiders would pull away, the Huskies would fight back and make Texas Tech start sweating again. So what went wrong? Well, Texas Techs’ offense performed extremely well, totaling 624 yards on offense and winning the time of possession. But their defense, in particular their secondary, was terrible, allowing 572 yards through the air and four touchdowns.

The Texas Longhorns already had their tune-up game but is it possible to have won for conference play as well? If Texas Tech cannot defend the pass against Houston Baptist’s quarterback, then what kind of performance are they going to have when Ehlinger, one of college football’s best quarterbacks, comes into town Saturday? Answer: one that will have everyone besides Matthew McConaughey and other Longhorn fans changing the channel.

Here’s how to watch and bet on the Texas vs Texas Tech game

  • Date: Saturday, Sept. 26
  • Start Time: 3:30 p.m. ET
  • Location: Lubbock, Texas
  • Stadium: Jones AT&T Stadium
  • TV Info: FOX
  • Odds: Texas -17.5, O/U 70.5
  • Live Stream: FOXSports Go

Prediction: While Ehlinger will have himself another field day, Texas’ run game will also be in full effect against this Red Raider defense, which will just open up the passing game even more. On the flip side, the Longhorns are going to be applying pressure to Red Raider quarterback, Alan Bowman, all game long and will force him to make some costly mistakes. Texas Tech’s offense keeps them in it for a little but the Longhorns are just too much and Texas wins big.

Score: Texas 48, Texas Tech 28.
