10. Jaylen Waddle, WR, Alabama

Shoutout to Mac Jones for a stellar beginning to his tenure as the full-time starting quarterback for Alabama but, in the Crimson Tide’s rout of Missouri, he didn’t see the field for four quarters and the Tide relied on the running game quite heavily as well. But someone from the Alabama passing game did emerge as a potential sleeper candidate for the Heisman Trophy: wide receiver Jaylen Waddle.

With the departures of Henry Ruggs III and Jerry Jeudy, Waddle was always going to be in line for a big year and it showed on Saturday night. The big-play wide receiver lived up to that billing as he hauled in eight receptions for 134 yards and caught both of Jones’ touchdown throws on the night. He was absolutely electric and appears primed to put on a show every time the ball is thrown his way this year.

9. Spencer Rattler, QB, Oklahoma

It was really a tale of two halves for redshirt freshman quarterback Spencer Rattler. Early on against Kansas State, the Oklahoma quarterback largely continued the pristine work that he put forth in a rut of Missouri State, save for two interceptions, his only  two incompletions of the first half. But things took a sour turn for Rattler and the Sooners in the second half.

Not only did the No. 3-ranked team in the country end up with an upset loss to Kansas State but Rattler struggled down the stretch. He completed only four of his final 12 throws and another interception sealed OU’s fate.

Rattler still put up 387 yards and four scores but with three picks and a loss, his Heisman candidacy took a big hit. He’ll need to mature quickly if he wants to climb back up these rankings.
