Josh Allen and the Bills showed why people doubt them in victory

After giving up a 28-3 lead, the Buffalo Bills showed why some people still don’t believe in them.

The Buffalo Bills should have been cruising to victory when they took a 28-3 lead against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday afternoon.

The meeting between two undefeated teams was a highly anticipated matchup. But Josh Allen and the Bills owned the first half of the game, taking a 7-0 lead in the first quarter with a touchdown from TE Lee Smith and extending that to a 21-3 lead by halftime, with a rushing touchdown from Allen and a receiving touchdown from TE Tyler Kroft.

WR Stefon Diggs, who joined the team this offseason from the Minnesota Vikings, extended the lead to 28-3 at the start of the second half. Everything was going right for the Bills. Until everything fell apart.

How did things fall apart for the Buffalo Bills?

The Rams were able to score 29 unanswered points in the second half. After Josh Allen threw his third touchdown of the day, Jared Goff answered by driving the Rams down the field and scoring a rushing touchdown of his own. Then, Allen threw an interception and Goff made a long completion that put the Rams right back in scoring position.

The avalanche didn’t slow down in the fourth quarter. A wide open Cooper Kupp caught another touchdown with ten minutes left in the fourth quarter, cutting the Bills lead to three. The Rams defense did their job, forcing a fumble from Allen near midfield. The Bills defense did not do their job, allowing Darrell Henderson to rush into the end zone with under five minutes left in the game.

It looked like the Bills were going to lose, a choke on-par with the performances by the Atlanta Falcons the last two weeks. Buffalo was only able to squeeze it out at the end because of a controversial pass interference call. They walked away with a 35-32 win and remain undefeated on the season. But the confidence of their fans and others watching around the league was shattered.

The Bills offense has looked stellar in their first three weeks. They have scored 27 or more points in each of their first three games. Allen has thrown for at least 300 yards in each of his first three games, the first time a Bills’ quarterback has done so since the early 1990s. But the Bills still have work to do if they want to take this team all the way.
