Matt Nagy insists he doesn’t know which quarterback will start for the Bears in Week 4. Fans in Chicago should hope he’s just being polite.

Nick Foles’ insertion into the Bears’ Week 3 matchup over the Falcons powered the Bears to their third consecutive win to open the season. According to Chicago head coach Matt Nagy, that doesn’t necessarily mean Foles is going to be the team’s starting quarterback moving forward.

Nagy refused to make a definitive call on who the Bears’ starting quarterback actually will be in the aftermath of his team’s 30-26 victory over the Falcons. Instead, he insisted that everyone in the organization just wanted to “enjoy the win.”

If the Bears put Mitchell Trubisky back into the starting lineup it might incite riots in Chicago. His poor play put the Bears in a tough spot against Atlanta. He left the game after completing 13 of his 28 passes for 128 yards. He did manage to throw one touchdown on the afternoon, but he also threw a costly interception.

Foles, in sharp contrast, was electric during his relief appearance. He tossed three touchdown passes against just one interception of his own. He ran the Bears offense with confidence and poise. Both things have been sorely lacking with Trubisky at the helm this season.

Nagy might want to watch film of his team’s effort against the Falcons before committing firmly to one signal-caller over the other. It would still be a massive surprise if he reaches any conclusion other than starting Foles next week. He energized the offense when he came onto the field. Foles allowed the Bears to win because of their quarterback play rather than surviving in spite of their production from football’s most important position.

Next. It's time for the Giants to worry about Daniel Jones. dark

Bears fans shouldn’t panic over Nagy’s most recent comments. He’s not really going to go back to Trubisky anytime soon. Chicago fans should expect to see Foles entrusted with the team’s offense for the near future. Trubisky isn’t necessarily done for the season, but it’s Foles’ turn to show the Bears coaching staff what he can do.
