Chiefs starter Andrew Wylie a last-minute scratch with possible appendicitis
The Chiefs will be without starting guard Andrew Wylie because of appendicitis.
The Kansas City Chiefs are expected to be missing a starter on the offensive line when they take on the Baltimore Ravens on Monday Night Football.
Andrew Wylie is inactive after he fell ill and had to be taken to the hospital, Adam Schefter reported the news as kickoff approached. The team believes the problem is appendicitis.
Wylie actually turned up to the stadium before he was evaluated by doctors, who sent him to the hospital for treatment, per Nate Taylor of The Athletic.
The Chiefs will need to rely on their depth with Andrew Wylie out.
There isn’t one obvious answer for Kansas City to fill the gap left by Wylie.
Yasir Durant is the backup right guard on the Chiefs’ website, but the rookie out of Missouri might not be ready to go in such a big game.
Backup Nick Allegretti is the backup left guard and is in his second year in the league. He may be a more palatable choice.
Kansas City could also turn to a veteran tackle. Backup tack Mike Remmers or backup center Daniel Kilgore would be the safe option.
Wylie is in his third year out of Eastern Michigan. He went undrafted in the 2017 NFL Draft and was passed around as a practice squad member for the Colts, Browns and Chargers before the Chiefs landed him in December. Since then, he has started 29 games for the franchise, including all 11 games in which he appeared during their 2019 title run.
Unfortunately, he was out with a high ankle sprain for Super Bowl LIV, but the ring would still be pretty sweet for a guy who had to fight so hard to stay in the league.
