Patrick Mahomes quote should scare rest of the NFL
Patrick Mahomes’ quote on Monday Night Football should scare rest of the NFL.
Patrick Mahomes has already won an NFL MVP Award and led the Kansas City Chiefs to a championship as the Super Bowl MVP.
The scary thing? He can get better.
“I’m nowhere near where I can be,” Mahomes was quoted on Monday Night Football as he and the Chiefs took on the Baltimore Ravens.
If that’s the case, and we’ve got no reason to doubt Mahomes at this point, then the NFL has a lot to worry about.
Patrick Mahomes expects to get even better.
As if to prove his point, Mahomes went out and ran for an easy touchdown to give the Chiefs a lead over the Ravens shortly after his quote came up. Then, in the second quarter, he underhand tossed the ball to the fullback for another score.
He’d add a third touchdown by delivering a gorgeous ball to Tyreek Hill from 20 yards out and a fourth on a 49-yard bomb before the first half was over.
The quarterback has gotten his 2020 season off to a strong start. Leading Kansas City to wins over the Texans and the Chargers, he has thrown for 513 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions.
Incredibly, those aren’t even his best two starts to begin a season. In 2018 and 2019 he had touchdown-to-interception ratios of 10-0 and 7-0 by this point.
If the Monday Night Football matchup with the Ravens was all about the battle between Mahomes and Lamar Jackson, the former proved he’s still the top dog among a new generation of special NFL quarterbacks.
Jackson can talk to Mahomes when he adds a Super Bowl to his MVP Award from 2019. By then, Mahomes may already have more trophies in his closet, since he insists he has room to raise his level even more.
NFL defensive coordinators are undoubtedly shivering in their boots.
