The White Sox are off to a great start in Oakland.

The Chicago White Sox are finally back in the postseason for the first time since 2008. The team did drop all the way down to the No. 7 seed after a brutal final week, but getting in is what counts.

The White Sox are taking on the Oakland Athletics in the first-round best-of-three series and got on the board first. Adam Engel launched a home run off Jesus Luzardo and thus history was made. Not only was this the first postseason home run in 2020, but the first run and home run in the playoffs for the franchise since 2008.

Adam Engel gets the White Sox an early lead

The last White Sox player to hit a postseason home run? That would be Jermaine Dye, who hit one in Game 4 of the 2008 ALDS against the Tampa Bay Rays. They lost that game and the series, beginning the long drought that was ended in 2020.

Engel is batting seventh in the lineup Tuesday. Lucas Giolito, who threw a no-hitter in August, is on the mound for Chicago.

But Engel no longer owns the latest home run in White Sox playoff history, at least as of the third inning. Jose Abreu hit a two-run shot of his own to put the lead at 3-0 through the top half of the third.

This is quite the great start for a team filled with talent. Abreu is fighting for the American League MVP alongside teammate Tim Anderson and Engel providing a boost from the seventh spot in the lineup is a huge bonus.

Next. Jose Abreu gets the national stage he’s always deserved. dark

There are plenty more runs to be scored in this series. So far, Sox fans are happy with the results.
