However, the Padres ended a 14-year postseason drought by getting the top NL Wild Card spot and will now host the Cardinals for the right to presumably play the Dodgers in the NLDS.
St. Louis may have made it to the NLCS last season, but this was a challenging year for the Cardinals. The Redbirds were one of two NL teams to deal with a major coronavirus outbreak internally. Interestingly enough, both of those clubs earned second-place finishes in their respective divisions and earned postseason berths. The other team is the Miami Marlins.

The Padres are the favorites to win this best-of-three series. However, the Cardinals have a great postseason history on their side. They weren’t favored to advance past the Atlanta Braves last year in the NLDS, but did so in five games. While a sweep on either side is possible, this one feels like it’s going to three games. The winner should be a formidable challenger to the Dodgers.
