4. Tampa Bay takes advantage of a rookie signal-caller

The Los Angeles Chargers entered 2020 with a win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1. Since then, things have gotten weird. Seemingly out of nowhere, rookie quarterback Justin Herbert trotted onto the field to start in Week 2 against the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs and damn near propelled the Chargers to a win. It can be called beginner’s luck or a hell of a first impression. It’s realistically likely closer to the latter.

It was later announced that starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor incurred a punctured lung from an erroneously administered painkiller shot. That’s sounds more like something out of an episode of Ozark than it does an NFL locker room.

In any event, Justin Herbert is the new QB1 for the Chargers, and the chances he relinquishes that job title after a couple of competent showings is minimal.

What’s the young man’s next test? Oh, only Tom Brady and his Buccaneers. To make matters more daunting, the game will take place at Raymond James Stadium in Florida — the venue that is hosting Super Bowl LV.

The Buccanneers are the NFL’s seventh-best team in terms of points allowed and have given up just three touchdowns to opponents. They will stimy the youngster Herbert en route to a decisive win.
