Goran Dragic may be out for rest of the NBA Finals

Goran Dragic had to leave Game 1 of the NBA Finals and it doesn’t look good for the Heat guard.

You couldn’t have scripted it worse for the Miami Heat in Game 1 of the NBA Finals. The Los Angeles Lakers were hot from beyond the arc and injuries ravaged the Heat lineup before they even had a chance. Point guard Goran Dragic left the game in the second quarter with a lower leg injury and he might not have a chance to come back.

The scariest injuries are the ones that look innocuous, It’s not looking good for Dragic or Miami.

Greg Sylvander of 5 Reasons Sports first reported that Dragic would be done for the series. Ethan Skolnick backed up the report saying the “injury is not promising” calling it a “likely plantar fascia issue.” Later, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that it was a plantar tear which will almost certainly rule him out for the rest of the NBA Finals.

Adding to the Heat’s woes, Bam Adebayo suffered a shoulder strain, per ESPN, and was ruled out for the rest of the game at least.

Can the Miami Heat survive without Gordan Dragic?

When Dragic left the game the Heat were down by just five. Things got out of hand as the Lakers went on a 26-14 run for the remainder of the second quarter. Dragic’s injury wasn’t the only problem for Miami — Adebayo’s injury certainly didn’t help, nor did a horrific night on defense for Tyler Herro — but his absence will be undeniably impactful.

His scoring had helped propel the Heat through the playoffs, leading the team with 20.9 points per game while his work running the floor opened up opportunities for his teammates. The Heat were already climbing a mountain trying to deny Lebron James and the Lakers a title. Without Dragic, their hopes are dimmer than ever.
